Contemporary Award Competition Rules

The participation is open to all artists with no restriction of location, regardless of age or professional status.
Several works are accepted per author and the rights must be fully owned by the artist.
The theme is free as well as the technique used to create every piece. The Technical skill and originality of the subject will be valued.
The dimensions are free.
The call for entry must clearly define all rules governing competition entries, specifications for work entered, any and all fees for entry and any and all rights to be transferred by entrants to the competition.
Jurors for the competition will be listed on the call for entry. No juror or employee of the organization holding the competition is eligible to enter the competition.
Jurying criteria and specifications for submitted artwork in all rounds will be defined clearly in the call for entry as a guide to both entrants and jurors.

Any hanging or exhibition fees paid for by entrants will be listed in the call for entries.
Artwork will not be altered in any way without the express permission of the artist.
All entries and rights to the artwork remain the property of the artist, unless a separate written transfer and payment for the original has been negotiated.
Deadlines and the process for notification of acceptance or rejection of all entries shall be listed in the call for entry.
Any and all uses for any and all entries shall be listed clearly in the call for entries, with terms for any rights to be transferred.
For the first round, reproductions of existing work will be used to judge appropriateness of style, technique and proficiency. This round will end with a list of finalists. If art from this round is not to be returned, that fact will be listed clearly in the call for entries.
Agreements will be made with each artist working at the final stage, prior to the beginning of work. The agreements will include the nature of the artwork required, deadlines, credit line and copyright ownership for the artist, and the amount of the award.
Any work of finalists not received by the required deadline or not in the form required and agreed upon will be disqualified. All rights to any disqualified artwork remain with the artist.

Registration and participation

By entering the competition, you agree to abide by all rules.

Registration

The Contemporary Award will open from the 10th of March until the 7th of June 2021 exclusively through the official website.

You must complete the artist and artwork data form.
Attach images of the work.You may upload whatever image size you are comfortable sharing.
It is required to pay 30 € as an official registration for the first artwork presented.
Each additional artwork will cost 24€. 
After a month of the Open Call for Entry
(10th of April), the entry registration fee will cost 45€ and each additional artwork, 30.15€.
All payments must be done through the website when completing the Submission: https://contemporaryaward.artcall.org/
You can submit as many works as you wish, by filling in one form per work. ALL entries (not just winners) will be displayed on this website. Each entry becomes part of the public, historical online contest catalog and will not be removed at a later date.
Void Where Prohibited by Law: You may not criticize, make derogatory or otherwise inappropriate comments anywhere on Contemporary Paintings web or in any other public forum about any other artist. Doing so will result in disqualification of your art from the contest.


*Once the form is submitted, the images and the payment has been done, you will receive a confirmation email.

*All submissions must be made through this website, email submissions and/or physical submission can't be accepted.

*All cash awards will be paid via Paypal.

*Make sure that your artwork is signed and that the signature is visible in the image you upload.

Assessment

An internal jury will determine a first pre-selection of the works.

From 8th of June to the 18th of June, the jury will meet to select potential winners and honorable mentions. We are content to count in with the presence of renowned and experienced artists such as Mark Tennant, Loribelle Spirovski, Mauro Martínez, Julien Delagrange, Pau Marinello, JLouis & Jordi Díaz.

Judging Criteria

The Jury will choose the winners of this contest evaluating aspects such as talent, technical quality and originality of the work from among the finalists. Likewise, the Jury will also choose reserves in the event that the prize cannot be assigned to the winners.

Is it creative?
Is it original and interesting?
Is there overall quality of the medium being used?
Does the creative work stand on its own?
The composition and design of the work are also a judging criterion.

Note: The quality of the images submitted will also play a role in the judging process.

Selection

The delivery of the decision will be announced on the 20th of June. The jury may grant as many Honorable Mentions as it deems is appropriate. The online exhibition of the selected works will be launched on the website and all the social media channels the 1st of July.

In addition, a democratic jury conformed by the audience will wisely decide another price through an interactive procedure which will enrich the potential exposure and showcasing of the artists and their artworks.

Jury’s decision is final. In the event of force majeure, Contemporary Paintings may substitute the aforementioned prizes for others or equal or superior characteristics.

The winning artwork will become property of Contemporary Paintings, owning the exclusive use of those and will acquire the rights of exhibition and reproduction of the same.
Note that if the participant does not intend to concede the artwork, it will represent the participant disqualification.
Likewise, if the participant does not agree with this rule, he or she must refrain from participating in the contest. 

The winning artist will also be responsible of the shipping of the artwork and the delivery, contacting personally the Contemporary Paintings Team in advance regarding all kind of necessary inconveniences or informations to be known.


Authorization of Use of Name, Image and Exploitation of the Same

The winners and on their behalf their tutors or legal representatives, authorize Contemporary Paintings to use the name and image of the participants in the image of the winners for information and advertising, as well as grant the exclusive assignment to Contemporary Paintings of all exploitation rights over the texts, images and material made to participate in this contest. Such exploitation rights include, but are not limited to, fixation, reproduction, distribution, public communication and transformation.

Prizes

These represent the valued prizes - regarding the decision of the Jury:

First price: 2000 €
Second price: 1000 €
Third price: 500 €

In addition, there will be a democratic prize handed by the votes of the audience. 

The payment of the prizes will be subject to the fiscal regulations imposed by the Law, with the applicable deductions being made. (Prices including VAT and personal income tax withholding).

Copyright and Original Work

The artist retains all copyrights to their artwork without exception. No artwork needs to be shipped as the contest is online. You must be the creator of the art and image file you or your approved representative submit to the competition. Your art must be your own original concept and not a copy of anyone else’s copyrighted material. (If your image infringes upon another’s copyright it will be disqualified.) Upon submitting your work, to this competition, you are solely responsible for any infringement on copyrighted materials.

We reserve the right to request proof that your entry is your original artwork created solely by you. Non-compliance to this rule will be a disqualification of your entry.

You must register for an account and be signed in to submit an entry. If you are under the age of 18, your parent or legal guardian must create an account and be logged in to submit an entry. Entries must be submitted using the Registration Form.

Appropriate Content

Content should fit the category.

Content should be appropriate for public use. 

The content  should be unique and interesting to a wide audience of Contemporary Paintings users.

Those artists who are part of associations or have registered the reproduction rights of their work, must inform Contemporary Paintings of such circumstances and bear the expenses derived from the corresponding rights.

Authorize Rights

By submitting your artwork you authorize Contemporary Paintings to post your entry on our site indefinitely, and grant Contemporary Paintings the right to use your artwork for marketing purposes and social media. 

Right to Determine Eligibility

Each entry will go through an approval process to determine if the artwork meets our criteria before the entry will be available for judging in its category.

Right To Adjust Contest Rules Without Notifying Contestants

Based on the volume of entries or legal requirements, contest rules can be changed and updated without notice. Contest participants are responsible for checking the site for changes, and should review the rules prior to each submission.

Treatment of Personal Data

In compliance with the provisions of Organic Law 15/1999, of December 13, Protection of Personal Data and Law 24/2002, of July 11, Services of the information society and electronic commerce, we inform you that the voluntary sending of personal data (including email) to participate in this contest implies the consent of the participant so that Contemporary Paintings process said data in an automated way for informational purposes, being able to incorporate the mentioned data to an automated file for which Contemporary Paintings will be responsible. 

In particular, the data of the participants will be used by Contemporary Paintings to communicate with them in the future, in order to send them communication in relation to the contest. Likewise, the data provided by the participants will be used in order to manage their participation in this contest. To his end, participation in the contest requires the publication on the web page of images related to the participants. If you do not want your data to be processed for the purposes set out in this paragraph, please refrain from participating in the contest. 

The participant declares and guarantees that all the personal data that they provide on the occasion of their participation in the contest are true and correspond to their identity.
